Tips - Civil3D
When you are planning your software strategy keep in mind that Civil 3D is version specific. That means the objects in one release are not compatible with similar objects in a previous release. When you open a Civil 3D drawing created in a previous release you receive the warning message that the drawing contains objects created in a previous version of Civil 3D. The newer version of Civil 3D will upgrade those older objects to the current release. Be careful. If you want to use this drawing in an older version of Civil 3D do not save the drawing in the newer version of Civil 3D. The best practice is to have your entire team (anyone who works on the same drawings) using the same version of Civil 3D, even if it means working in an older version for some.
Installation Tip
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 will install much faster if you copy the DVDs to your hard drive or network drive and then install from that copy. You must copy the first 3 discs into a single folder structure on your hard drive. Please refer to this Knowledge Base Article TS TS1108147 on the Autodesk web site.
There is important information regarding licensing and subscription policies contained in the Civil 3D box. We have provided a copy of this information on our In the Box page.

Point Label Style Tip
Q. When I use the Point#, Elevation, Description label style in the _AutoCAD Civil 3D (Imperial) NCS.dwt the drag state of the label is not formated correctly. The leader is attached to the wrong side. When I change the style to use stacked for the drag state the components are out of order. I want P, E, D but the label shows D, P, E.

A. Click HERE to download a DWFx file that explains how to modify the label style to produce the correct results. Click HERE to get the PDF version of the file.
(Download the DWFx file. Make sure you save it with the .dwfx file extension and not .zip. Open the file with Design Review.)
Survey Database Q&A for Civil 3D 2010.
Q. I have LDT points in a drawing. Can I extract them to the Survey Database?
A. Yes.
Q. Suppose I have a Survey Database with points. Can I import points to a new drawing?
A. Yes
Q. I open a drawing and realized my Survey Database is from a different project and does not match the COGO points in the drawing. Will Civil 3D open the correct Survey Database automatically?
A. No. The Survey Database does not automatically open to the correct database. You must be aware of which database goes with which drawing.
