| This is a clip from the 2010 End User License Agreement (EULA). Subscription is the way to help your business make this transition easier by allowing you to use Previous Versions. Subscription provides benefits in addition to the EULA. It does not replace the EULA. Please read the entire license agreement (follow the link). |

License Compliance FAQ when your subscription has expired.
(Information gathered directly from a representative within Autodesk's License Compliance Division.)
Example 1:
Q. A customer has Civil 3D 2009 on subscription, receives 2010 through a subscription fulfillment but does not install it. Is their current version 2009 or 2010?
A. If they at some point did not renew sub, the ‘registered’ version will be the last version they received fulfillment for (in the example, 2010 would show on license report as ‘registered’ with no current sub agreement). The newest version they have requested an activation code for will be their ‘active’ or ‘current’ version and should be the one version they are running on the PC (if not on sub). Their current version – if not on subscription and never installed 2010 is 2009. 2009 is the version they should be running to be compliant with the license agreement.
Example 2:
Q. A customer has Civil 3D 2009 on subscription, receives 2010 through a subscription fulfillment but installs it in trial mode (sn 000-0000000) and never activates it. Is their current version 2009 or 2010?
A. Their current version is still 2009. Autodesk's registration database would show an activation code was never requested for 2010 version.
Example 3:
Q. A customer has Civil 3D 2009 on subscription, receives 2010 through a subscription fulfillment but installs it using their serial number and never activates it. Is their current version 2009 or 2010?
A. Similar to example 2, if the customer requested and received and activation code from Autodesk then this constitutes an activation, incrementing their current version to 2010. If there was no activation their current version is still 2009.
